Hi Kids!

 

Another hot and sunny week on the Rock – I hope you’re all making the most of summer before it’s gone!  If you need a little inspiration, here are a few things coming up over the next few weeks:

 

Supersize Me is the next film showing in Bermuda National Library’s Get REEL Wednesday Documentary Film Series. This will be screened this afternoon at 4pm in the meeting room – here’s the flyer!

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Adult Services Film Selection at Bermuda National Library this week is Ratatouille with showtimes at 11am and 2pm on Saturday, July 14th. All are welcome but they suggest you get there early since spaces are limited – here’s the flyer!

 

 

 

 

The Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art are celebrating their 25th Birthday on Saturday, July 14th.  To celebrate this milestone, they are inviting the Bermuda public to an Open House from 10am until 4pm, with tours throughout the day, children’s detective guides and a treasure hunt focused around the current exhibit, A Rock and an Ocean.  Entry is free.

 

This month’s edition of the Bermuda Docs Weekend Film Series will be on Sunday, July 15th. Documentary, Booker’s Place: A Mississippi Story will be showing at 3pm, followed by Peace, Love and Misunderstanding, at 5.15pm. The Corona Beach Tournament is the Bermuda Volleyball Association’s last co-ed tournament of the summer and will be on Horseshoe Bay Beach on Saturday, July 21st (rain date of July 22nd).  This tournament will have both a 4-a-side division ($120 per team) and a 2-a-side division  team ($60 per team) and the registration fee includes lunch and beverages as well as tournament entry.  Registration is open until July 18 at www.bermudavolleyball.bm.

 

Anyone out there like their reggae with a local flavour? In that case, you are going to love this – headlining in Bermuda for the first time with his band, Gosling’s Rum and Vibe 103 FM present Collie Buddz and New Kingston Band, performing live in Barrs Bay Park on Wednesday, August 1st.    I can almost hear the excited squawks as this will be Collie Buddz’s first concert in Bermuda since NYE 2009.  Doors open at 8pm, early warm-up is by Vibe 103 DJs Smokey, Chubb, Keem and Rusty G and showtime is at 10pm.  Limited advance tickets are $50, or $30 for youths, and available from www.ptix.bm, Kit ‘n’ Caboodle, Fish & Tings, Jamaican Grill, Sovereign Jewellers or Gosling’s.  The first 200 tickets purchased online will sell for $40!

 

BermudaSalsa.com Group are bringing us so more hip-shaking shenanigans as their production arm SalsaMania Productions stages Mambo Nights, a Broadway-style Latin dance and music showcase, featuring some of the world’s best dancers and musicians.  Confirmed performers so far include New York Dance Company, Latin Energy from Toronto and Edson Vallon from Montreal. This involves a whole host of associated events from the 9th until the 15th of August, although the main attraction will be the show itself, Mambo Nights, on Saturday, August 11th in the Harbourview Ballroom at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. Doors open at 8pm, showtime is at 8.30pm and tickets cost $55. VIP tickets include premium table seating and a goody bag and cost $75. All workshops are held in the Harbourview Ballroom and cost $25 for a single workshop or $80 for the workshop pass to all 5. JB Youth Soccer Camp has announced that this year’s camp will run from August 20th until the 31st, Monday to Friday at the Port Royal Primary School Field. This camp is for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 12 and includes a daily regimen of foot skill development, technical and tactical practices, as well as lessons on respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship. Swimming and other activities will also be included.  Each child will be coached by Barbados National Squad Captain, Norman Forde, who will be flying over especially for the camp and each camper will receive a free camp t-shirt. There is a pre-registration fee of $50 and the cost is $150 per week, with a discount for siblings.  For further information, contact T. Riddell’s Bay Golf & Country Club are offering a Summer Golf Special for Bermuda Residents from July 9th until September 22nd.   They will have a special pricing of $70, including the cart, all day Tuesday through Friday, and after noon on Saturday and Sunday. On Mondays, this special pricing is $60.  On Fridays, they invite you to join them at the 19th Hole for Friday Happy Hour, when beer, house wine and cocktails are $5 from 5pm – here’s the flyer!
